Originally from Jacksonville, Florida, Lynyrd Skynyrd is a Southern rock group. Ronnie Van Zant on vocals, Gary Rossington and Allen Collins on guitars, Larry Junstrom on bass, and Bob Burns on drums made comprised the group’s first lineup when it was formed in 1964.

The band’s current lineup consists of lead vocalist Johnny Van Zant (since 1987), guitarist Mark Matejka (since 2006), keyboardist Peter Keys (since 2009), and bassist Keith Christopher.

Guitarist and vocalist Rickey Medlocke (from 1971 to 1972 and since 1996), guitarist and vocalist Rickey Medlocke (from 1966 to 1996), and drummer Michael Cartellone (since 1999) are also included (since 2017). Dale Krantz-Rossington (since 1987) and Carol Chase serve as the group’s current backup vocalists while on tour (since 1996)

The only surviving member of the ensemble who recorded 1977’s Street Survivors is drummer Artimus Pyle, who took Burns’ position and survived the aircraft disaster.

Gary Rossington, the sole remaining founding member of the Southern rock ‘n’ roll group Lynyrd Skynyrd, underwent emergency heart surgery and is currently recuperating, the group wrote on social media.
